Bishkek, March 24, 2022. / Kabar /. In Kyrgyzstan, 1 million 678 thousand citizens or 25.4% of the population live below the poverty line, Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of the republic Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said at a press conference on Thursday.

He added the ministry is actively working to reduce poverty in the country.

"Thus, within a pilot project of the Ministry and the UN World Food Program, 100 low-income families of Batken Oblast received KGS 100 thousand each. The aim of the project is to help low-income families get out of difficult situations," the minister said.

Under the Social Assistance project, low-income families are provided with lump-sum grants based on a Social Contract.

Social Contract is an agreement between low-income families and the state. Vulnerable families receive grant funds, as well as a comprehensive support package that includes financial literacy training, assistance in developing a business plan, vocational or agricultural training, social services, and mentoring for successful long-term businesses.

The project targets families living below the national poverty line with business ideas, start-up assets and basic knowledge for activities such as agriculture, sewing services and other initiatives.
