A 100-day information campaign under the auspices of the Interior Ministry "Uniting to Stop Human Trafficking" started on July 30 in Kyrgyzstan, head of the Department of Criminal Police Service of the Interior Ministry of the republic Marlis Dzhumabayev told at a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
In 2013, the UN General Assembly declared July 30 as the World Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons.
"The main purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the situation of victims of human trafficking, aimed at promoting and protecting their rights. Every year the themes of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons are identified. Thus, the theme for 2021 is designated as “Victims’ Voices Lead the Way”, the campaign is aimed at the needs of victims as key actors in the fight against human trafficking," Dzhumabayev said.
He noted that state policy should emphasize the crucial role that victims play in developing effective measures to prevent this crime, identifying and rescuing victims, and supporting them on their path to rehabilitation.
Marlis Dzhumabayev added the Interior Ministry developed a draft National Referral Mechanism (NRM) for victims of human trafficking in Kyrgyzstan, which was adopted by government decree on Sept. 19, 2019.
As part of the 100-day awareness campaign for World Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons, a coordinating body of the Criminal Police Service of the Interior Ministry for the implementation of the NRM initiated to time a campaign on NRM implementation with a focus on the needs and requirements of victims of human trafficking.
"In order to effectively conduct the 100-day information campaign, the Ministry of Interior in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Development, the Ministry of Education and Science and other authorized bodies and international organizations such as the Solidarity Center, Winrock, OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, ILO, IOM, UNODC and a national base of 19 NGOs developed an action plan and designated the motto of the campaign: " Uniting to Stop Human Trafficking”.
An important place in the plan is given to interagency interaction and cooperation between state agencies and the national base of NCOs in the implementation of the designated activities," Marlis Dzhumabayev concluded.
