12th meeting of Council of Elders of Organization of Turkic States held in Istanbul

Bishkek, Feb. 16, 2022. / Kabar /. The 12th meeting of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held in Istanbul on February 9-11, 2022, in which the elders of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan took part, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Currently, the chairman of the Turkish side in the Council of Elders in the OTS is a member of parliament, ex-speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, former Prime Minister of Turkey Binali Yildirim.

The Kyrgyz Republic in the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States is represented by the former Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, former Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Turkey and Iran, Medetkan Sherimkulov, in agreement with the head of state.

Azerbaijan has nominated a prominent statesman, an experienced diplomat, ex-Prime Minister, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Gasan Hasanov to the post of Elder.

From Kazakhstan, a member of the Council of Senators of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, a member of the Public Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Ikram Adyrbek, became an Elders of the OTS.

Uzbekistan has nominated Bakhtiyor Saifullaev, Chairman of the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan for Youth, Culture and Sports.

The Council of Elders was established in 2010 after the establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States in accordance with Article 9 of the Nakhchivan Agreement on the Establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States.

In 2021, the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States was transformed into the Organization of Turkic States.
