Bishkek, Dec.4, 2024. /Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan for a working visit, chaired the regular 12th meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Intergovernmental Council in an expanded format.
Akylbek Zhaparov noted the main achievements and agreements reached between the two countries in the current year. Among them are the signing of the Treaty on deepening and expansion of allied relations, as well as the Agreement on preparation for construction and operation of Kambarata HPP-1, settlement of issues on 4 guesthouses on Issyk-Kul, transferred for use to the Kazakh side.
He expressed confidence that the high-level events held this year have contributed to further strengthening the strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries.
The head of the Cabinet noted that the volume of mutual trade is growing every year, from 2019 to 2023 the trade turnover between the countries increased by 38%, including exports by 30% and imports by 42%. These figures confirm that there is a great potential for systematic increase in bilateral trade.
“The Kyrgyz and Kazakh leaders have set the task to increase the volume of mutual trade to USD 3 billion by 2030. To realize this task, we need to find new opportunities for industrial cooperation, create alternative forms of trade, including e-commerce, launch mutually beneficial investment projects, remove existing barriers to trade, as well as fully ensure the free movement of goods and maintain a stable situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border,” he said.
The sides thoroughly discussed the implementation of such projects as the construction of industrial trade and logistics complex on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border, ferroalloy plant in Tash-Kumyr, solar power plants, trade and logistics warehouse for storage of fruits and vegetables in Almaty region.
Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan also reached agreements to work out a number of complex issues to create favorable conditions on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border through reconstruction of checkpoints, joint inspection of the condition of bridges on the border.
Akylbek Zhaparov also emphasized the key role of transport infrastructure in strengthening bilateral trade and economic ties. One of the most important projects implemented jointly with the Asian Development Bank in this direction is the Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor (ABEC).
Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov noted that thanks to the joint efforts of Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov and Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in recent years, the strategic partnership between the two countries has achieved great success and continues to strengthen. He emphasized that currently the governments of the two countries are actively working on the implementation of the agreements reached at a high level.
Within the framework of the meeting, the reports of the Council members were heard, as well as the presentation of Director General of the Asian Development Bank for Central and West Asia Evgeny Zhukov.
The participants of the event discussed the status and prospects of Kyrgyz-Kazakh cooperation, as well as identified ways to address pressing issues.
