Bishkek, March 20, 2024. / Kabar/. The second World Deaf Taekwondo Championship will be held in Bishkek from March 25 to 30. Kyrgyzstan will be represented by 13 athletes. The head coach of the Kyrgyz national sign-taekwondo team, Dmitry Ponomarev, told today at a press conference at the Kabar Agency.
He said that the Kyrgyz national team consists of nine women and four men. Athletes will be represented in nine weight categories.
According to him, the athletes are well prepared and intend to “destroy” their rivals. “We have had good training, camps and are ready for fights. Our athletes are already quite experienced. Many of them have performed at similar events abroad more than once, and we hope that each representative in their weight category will achieve victory,” Ponomarev said.
The mentor shared with reporters that there are no difficulties in working with such special athletes. It's just that sign language is used instead of words. “We have about 100 such athletes training and have not encountered any difficulties. We often have fights with ordinary athletes and, believe me, they are in no way inferior to them. Everyone fights equally,” the coach said and noted that at sports competitions light barriers are used, by which they are guided that the fight is over.
