Bishkek, Feb. 3, 2020. / Kabar /. Last year, 168 Kyrgyz citizens were transferred from abroad to further serve their sentences in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Prosecutor General said.
According to data of the main supervisory authority, on the results of 2019, the country's prosecutor general’s office considered over 532 requests for legal assistance from law enforcement agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic to the CIS and non-CIS countries on the various categories of criminal cases they have in the proceedings.
23 requests of the competent authorities of foreign states for extradition of criminals identified and detained in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic were satisfied. Over the same period, the competent authorities of foreign states satisfied about 75 requests by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan for extradition in order to prosecute and enforce the sentence.
The department also notes that the Prosecutor General’s Office is the authorized body in the implementation of Kyrgyzstan’s contractual rights and obligations on international cooperation in the field of criminal justice and the interaction of law enforcement agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic with the competent authorities of foreign countries.
“Today, 20 countries have signed bilateral agreements on legal assistance and cooperation in the fight against crime, and cooperation is also being carried out in the framework of regional and multilateral acts,” the statement said.
