16th Meeting of Supreme Court of Chief Justices of SCO countries held under chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Sept. 24, 2021. / Kabar /. The 16th Meeting of the Supreme Court of Chief Justices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held in the videoconference format. The meeting was chaired by the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Moderator was chairwoman of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan Nurgul Bakirova.

Opening the meeting, Nurgul Bakirova noted that the event is being held in the year of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the SCO.

“In two decades, the SCO has come a long way from institutional building to reaching a qualitative level of relations between the SCO member states. The meeting of the heads of the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states creates a fertile ground for further cooperation and it is clear that without your direct participation and contribution it would be impossible to create stable relations within the framework of our meeting,” the head of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic emphasized.

The meeting was attended by: Judge of the Supreme Court of India Nageshwara Rao, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan Zhakyp Asanov, Chairman of the Supreme People's Court of China Zhou Qiang, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia Vyacheslav Lebedev, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan Shermukhammad Shohiyon, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan Kozimjan Kamilov.

The Meeting was also attended by: Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Vladimir Norov, Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Kanat Tyukeev.

On behalf of the observer states, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus Valentin Sukalo, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Ahmad Mortazavi Mogaddam, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Mongolia Ganzorig Damdin took part in the meeting.

During the event, relevant and interesting reports were presented, the participants asked their questions to the speakers.

The heads of the Supreme Courts agreed to exchange best national practices in the field of enforcement of decisions of arbitration courts, scientific, theoretical and applied information regarding the humanization of the criminal and criminal procedural legislation of the SCO member states, juvenile justice. The sides agreed to exchange experience in the implementation of information technologies in the activities of courts, which will correspond to the trends of global digitalization.

At the same time, the participants stated that the current stage in the development of the SCO falls on the period of active development of information technologies and the growth of the influence of the media on public consciousness. In accordance with the national legislation of the SCO member states, the participants in the meeting noted the importance of interaction between the judiciary and the media.

Following the results of the meeting, a Joint Statement of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Courts of the SCO Member States was adopted

The next meeting of the heads of the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states will be held in 2022 in Tajikistan.
