185 people in Kyrgyzstan suffered from food poisoning since beginning of year

Bishkek, June 3, 2022. /Kabar/. Food poisoning cases have become more frequent in Kyrgyzstan in recent months, Azamat Imakeyev, the head of the Department for Food Safety Supervision and Prevention of Alimentary Diseases, told a press conference at Kabar News Agency.

He added that 51 cases of food poisoning were registered since the beginning of the year, and 185 citizens were affected.

"Of these, 29 were cases of food toxicosis affecting 154 people, as well as 21 cases of botulism with 31 victims. There were 5 cases of mass poisonings, in which 117 people were affected. The first mass poisoning was registered in Issyk-Kul Oblast in April among schoolchildren. More recently, 56 people in Osh Oblast were poisoned by cakes. During inspections, we found many violations of the shelf life and storage conditions," said Imakeyev.

As a result of these mass poisonings, mini-markets and sales outlets in Osh were raided.

The specialist noted that during the inspections, protocols were drawn up in accordance with the Code of Violations of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the materials were handed over to the police.

"Another mass poisoning was registered at festivity in Batken Oblast with the participation of 180 people. 34 people were affected.The cause of the poisoning were salads and other products that were prepared at home with mayonnaise," he said.

The specialist urged Kyrgyzstanis to observe the basic rules for storing perishable foods.
