Bishkek, Dec. 19, 2018. /Kabar/. 211 people throughout the country expressed their desire to learn and become foster parents. Following a two-stage training and selection, 132 parents received the certificate, the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development reported.
As reported, a foster family is formed on the basis of an agreement on the passsage of a child (children) to be raised in a family that expressed their desire to do so. Up to 3 children under the age of 16 may be brought up by a foster family. At the same time, the total number of minor children, including biological and adopted children, and wards, should not exceed 5 children.
Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Development Aliza Soltonbekova told that for the child being transferred to a foster family, foster parents who have undergone special training are carefully selected.
“Today in Kyrgyzstan only seven families are foster families. Now we are actively working on the development of the institution of foster families so that children are brought up in a family environment and do not go to boarding schools,” Soltonbekova said.
Material support and financing of the maintenance of children transferred to foster family and foster parents’ wages are provided from the republican budget.
Parent training was carried out as part of the project with the technical support of a UNICEF project, which was implemented by SOS Children's Villages.
