Bishkek, Feb. 6, 2019. /Kabar/. Over 20 kg of synthetic drugs were seized in Kyrgyzstan in 2018, head of the Service for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Oleg Zapolsky told at a regional seminar in Bishkek.
He said that Kyrgyzstan is a transit country for illicit drug trafficking.
“Last year we managed to detain 25 people who were members of a drug group. Among them were citizens of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia, citizens of Russia are native residents of the Kyrgyz Republic and returned home to share experience in selling new synthetic drugs. In their criminal activities, they used Internet technology and various messengers, etc. The criminals had not even seen each other's faces until we detained them. They also had a clear scheme for legalizing the money obtained from the sale of psychotropic substances,” Zapolsky said.
According to him, at the end of 2018, two Iranian citizens were detained in the country. “For us, this was something new, because earlier no one would have thought that drugs are being delivered from Iran. These citizens tried to bring 1 kg of methamphetamine into the country in their stomachs,” Zapolsky said.
In his opinion, the smuggling route of synthetic drugs is changing. “Drugs come mostly from China and Kazakhstan. In Kyrgyzstan in 2017, over 100 new types of drugs were included in the list of prohibited psychotropic substances and precursors. Drugs of the new generation are the scourge of our time, it is necessary to fight this phenomenon,” Zapolsky said.
