Bishkek, April 3, 2023. / Kabar/. Since the beginning of the year, 41 cases of measles have been registered in Kyrgyzstan, Gulbara Ishenapysova, director of the Republican Immunoprophylaxis Center of the Kyrgyz Republic told.
“Mostly refuseniks who have not been vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) in the first year of life and 6 years old get sick. In this regard, we urge all parents whose children have not yet been vaccinated against measles to get vaccinated,” she said.
Ishenapysova also urges citizens not to panic in connection with the detection of cases of the disease. “Today, according to the World Health Organization, an increase in measles disease is observed everywhere. Thus, since the beginning of the year, 513 cases of measles have been detected in Tajikistan, 286 in Turkey, 233 in Russia, and 75 in Kazakhstan,” the head of the RCI concluded.
Measles is a dangerous viral infection that is most common among children. It is characterized by fever, cough, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, rashes (Koplik spots) on the oral mucosa, and a maculopapular rash.
Prior to the introduction of the measles vaccine in 1963 and widespread vaccination, major measles epidemics occurred every 2–3 years, with 2.6 million measles deaths each year.
