According data, malnutrition among adolescents, especially girls, are an underestimated problem, although this period should be considered as an existing opportunity to prepare them for a healthy reproductive life, as well as to prevent the onset of chronic nutrition-related diseases in adult life.

The promotion and protection of optimal nutrition at an early stage of life through exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months should remain in priority, the document indicates.

More than 7% of children and 30.6% of women suffer from obesity and overweight due to malnutrition. This creates risks to the productivity and well-being of the population, especially among women of reproductive age and young children.

In addition, there is an increase in the availability and consumption of foods with rich in trans fats, salt and sugar.
