Bishkek, Jan. 14, 2021 /Kabar/. From 2014 to 2020, more than 200 children received foster care services, Minister of Labour and Social Development of Kyrgyzstan Aliza Soltonbekova said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
According to her, a foster family is a trained family, which carries out the upbringing of children in difficult situations, for a certain period of time on the basis of a contract.
"Often many citizens confuse foster families with formal adoptive families. Foster families are not official parents, children are temporarily placed in families. In turn, adoptive parents legally secure the family ties and give their surname to the child. At present, there are 44 foster families in the republic and 72 children are being raised in them," she said.
Soltonbekova also clarified that in order to become a foster family, it is necessary to write an application to the territorial department of the Labour Ministry.
"The candidate family must meet the age requirements, namely be between the ages of 35 and 65, have their own home, etc. If the family fits all the requirements, they are invited to the training, where the parents' mental health is also assessed," the minister pointed out.
