Bishkek, Feb. 13, 2020 / Kabar /. At a meeting of the Kyrgyz Parliament, deputy Parkhat Tulendybaev called on the Ministry of Education and Science of the country and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to strengthen joint work to prevent teenage suicides, the press service of the Parliament reported.
“A glaring incident occurred this week on the territory of one of the schools of the capital. Unfortunately, it is not an only one. On Feb. 11, a guard at school No. 16 discovered the body of a hanged teenager. Sad statistics indicate that teenage suicides have a place to be in our lives, 46 teenagers committed suicide in Kyrgyzstan in 2019, 26 of them were boys, 20 girls,” Tulendybaev said.
He said that, the reasons for this tragic event are different. “Teens take their own lives because of a lack of parental attention and love. Now there are many children who are raised by relatives, because the parents are either divorced or are in other countries. Also, teenagers commit suicide because of problems with classmates, friends at school,” said the deputy.
In this regard, Tulendybaev called on the responsible government agencies to strengthen comprehensive work to prevent and prevent teenage suicide.
“We need an integrated approach at the state level to prevent this dangerous social phenomenon. As our president said, Kyrgyzstan is one of 62 countries that have achieved the Millennium Development Goals of reducing child mortality by more than two-thirds. Our overall and common goal is not only to consolidate this result, but also to achieve a further decrease in child mortality rates. Therefore, it is necessary to consolidate the work to prevent teenage mortality and suicide through the joint work of guardianship, education, school psychologists, as well as the Public Security Service and the Inspectorate for Juvenile Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the deputy concluded.
