Bishkek, Dec. 17, 2020. /Kabar/. The Asian Development Bank within the Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor (ABEC) Initiative donated 50 Clarity Node-S air quality monitors to help improve public health and quality of life in Bishkek by improving air quality in the capital and areas surrounding the city where air pollution levels are increasing.
A ceremony of handing over the sensors was held on Thursday with the participation of ADB Country Director for the Kyrgyz Republic Candice McDeigan and representatives of the Agency on Hydrometeorology under the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations (Kyrgyzhydromet).
The event was also attended by First Deputy Chief of the Kyrgyz Government’s Office Uran Akhmetov, Deputy Minister of Economy/Co-Chairman of the ABEC subcommittee from the Kyrgyz Republic Sultan Akhmatov.
The total delivery of the air quality measurement devices on a grant basis from ADB to the government of the Kyrgyz Republic made about USD 90,000.
The air quality measurements are a new generation of air quality sensors that include solar panels, screens for external protection and cellular communications to send calibrated air quality data in real time for tracking and publishing on the websites of Kyrgyzhydromet (http://meteo.kg/) and ABEC (https://www.almaty-bishkek.org).
The Kyrgyz capital is the first city in Central Asian region to receive such a devices.
The request for support to improve air quality measurement in Bishkek was previously initiated by the Office of the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic and implemented in close coordination with the Ministry of Economy as part of the Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor (ABEC).
