Bishkek, Nov. 25, 2020. /Kabar/. During 10 months of 2020, 51 cases of food poisoning were registered in Kyrgyzstan, 28 of which are cases of botulism with 57 people injured, the press service of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry reported.
Mainly botulism incidence is registered in Osh Oblast of the country 19 cases with 42 people injured.
Botulism is an acute food poisoning resulting from the consumption of products contaminated with botulism sticks and containing botulinum toxin, while affecting the nervous system. The causative agent of botulism is anaerobic Clostridium botulinum, which can develop without oxygen. It is able to produce the strongest poison in nature. Many people, not knowing what botulism is, ignore its extreme danger to human life.
Mortality rate for botulism in cases of untimely seeking medical care reaches 70%. Only a quick visit to a doctor, timely diagnosis and specific treatment can save from a tragic outcome.
