Bishkek, March 25, 2022 . / Kabar /. 500 short-term kindergartens will be created in Kyrgyzstan, covering about 40,000 children, the Ministry of Education and Science reported Friday.
As part of expanding access to pre-school education, resources allocated to relevant programs have been increased. In addition, other alternative pre-school education programs have been implemented. As a result, the coverage of children by such programs was 48%. In 2012, 132,000 children were covered, and in 2021 - more than 198,000 children.
Nevertheless, despite the high coverage of pre-school programs, most young children do not have access to a full pre-school education system during the most important period of their lives, when a child's personality is being formed.
In Kyrgyzstan, pre-school education continues to grow steadily. According to the latest 2020-2021 data, the total number of children of pre-school age is more than 1 million 118 thousand children, currently only 25% attend kindergartens. While this figure is relatively high in cities (34.5% - data for 2019), in rural areas only 20.6% of children are covered by kindergartens.
One of the best ways out of this situation is that the Ministry of Education and Science continues to work purposefully to increase the involvement of children in pre-school education. Last year, the ministry began implementing the "Education for the Future" project, funded by the World Bank. One of the directions of this project is the expansion of pre-school education: 500 short-term kindergartens will be created across the country, covering about 40,000 children.
Short-term kindergartens are beneficial from an economic point of view. They will be organized in villages with an acute shortage of kindergartens. This does not require the allocation of financial resources from the national budget or the construction of new buildings.
As of today, there are 120 short-term kindergartens in the republic.
