559 Kyrgyzstanis evacuated from Ukraine since start of hostilities, says ambassador

Bishkek, March 11, 2022 . / Kabar /. As of 9:00 p.m. (Kiev time) on March 10, the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Ukraine has evacuated 559 citizens since the start of hostilities, Ambassador Idris Kadyrkulov wrote on his Facebook page.

The diplomat noted that 93 people remain on the territory of Ukraine.

“Of this number, about 25% are non-residents of Kyrgyzstan (family members and former citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic). Of this group, most of the persons have the citizenship of Ukraine, but have not renounced the citizenship of Kyrgyzstan, in connection with which they retain internal passports of the Kyrgyz Republic with expired terms,” he wrote.

Of the remaining 93 citizens, 50% refuse to evacuate for various reasons (family and domestic circumstances, business activities, poor health of relatives, etc.).

“There are repeated cases when Kyrgyz citizens, withdrawn from hot spots in Poland, appealed to us with a request to return them back to the territory of Ukraine to continue their business activities in calmer regions," Kadyrkulov added.

The Embassy performs its functions in full in a reinforced round-the-clock mode. Employees maintain constant contact with citizens to provide legal, informational and advisory assistance and consular activities.
