Bishkek, July 8, 2020 / Kabar /. As a result of heavy rains and landslides in southwestern Japan, 57 people died, 2 were found without signs of life and another 17 disappeared, Interfax reported.
Heavy rain hit the island of Kyushu in southwest Japan. In Oita Prefecture, two rivers overflowed the banks.
Authorities have to assess the damage in some areas. Rescuers plan to continue searching for the missing on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, meteorologists warn of floods and landslides in central and western parts of Japan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an emergency warning of heavy rain in some regions of the Gifu and Nagano prefectures. It is noted that precipitation was recorded in these regions which had not existed for several decades.
In the prefectures of Kyoto and Nagano, evacuation was announced for 145.6 thousand people. Another 131 thousand people in the prefectures of Miyagi, Fukushima, Nagano, Kyoto, Osaka, Shiga received recommendations for evacuation.
