Bishkek, Apr. 2, 2019. /Kabar/. 6.5 billion soms will be required for implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Development of Kyrgyzstan Janyl Alybaeva told at a press conference at the Kabar News Agency.
She recalled that on March 14 the President of Kyrgyzstan signed the Law on Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which the republic became a party to in 2011.
“During these years we held various events, were preparing the country. The main issue was financing. Today, the amount of funding is 6.5 billion soms, which will be directed to the implementation of the convention for 10 years. An interdepartmental working group has been established. Today, this group is working to develop such a strategic long-term program, such as “Accessible Country,” she explained.
Alybaeva noted that introduction of provisions and norms on the rights of persons with disabilities within three years is a priority.
The purpose of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity.
The Kyrgyz Republic became a party to the Convention on September 21, 2011 within the framework of the work of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, expressing its intention to take the necessary measures to implement the Convention in the future.
