Bishkek, May 3, 2020. /Kabar/. In Kyrgyzstan, 67% of cases of confirmed COVID-19 disease are asymptomatic, Head of the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Vital Infection Control Zuridin Nurmatov said at a briefing at the Government House.
According to him, during an outbreak in China, the World Health Organization reported that 20-25% of the disease were asymptomatic.
"In the U.S., such research has recently been conducted among military personnel. Of those, 65 % had no disease. So not 20-25%, but 65% are asymptomatic.
As for Kyrgyzstan, according to doctors, 67% of the patients who underwent laboratory testing had no symptoms. Our statistics are the same as the world statistics," he said.
Nurmatov explained that as of today, COVID-19 patients are hospitalized on two indicators: the first one - when there are clinical indications, symptoms, the second one - on epidemiological indicators. That is, when there are no symptoms, but there is need to protect person from others, so that he doesn't infect anyone.
"Even if the disease is asymptomatic, patients may feel good but infect others. It's very dangerous. That's why we can say that potentially COVID-19 infected is among the population, who has not been tested for confirmation," he said.
To date, May 3, 26 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered in the republic, 795 in total.
207 cases are among medical workers.
564 citizens have cured and discharged from hospitals, including 139 medics.
Ten have died.
