71.2% of citizens of Kyrgyzstan have antibodies to COVID-19

Bishkek, May 3, 2021. / Kabar /. 71.2% of citizens of Kyrgyzstan have antibodies to COVID-19, head of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for the Control of Viral Infections Zuridin Nurmatov told at a press conference.

He said that the staff of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for the Control of Viral Infections conducted a 2-stage scientific study for the presence of antibodies to COVID-19 in Kyrgyzstanis who had been ill in a severe, mild and asymptomatic form.

Thus, as of August 2020, 30.8% of citizens had antibodies to COVID-19.

"In turn, as of April 1, 2021, 71.2% of citizens have antibodies," he said.

In addition, Nurmatov noted that in August 2020, the smallest number of citizens with antibodies was registered in Issyk-Kul, Batken and Naryn regions. Currently, the smallest number of citizens with antibodies is observed in Bishkek, the largest number is in Talas region and the city of Osh.

Antibodies, or immunoglobulins, are special proteins that the immune system produces in response to the ingress of any infectious agent, including COVID-19, into the human body, even if there were no clear signs of the disease. Antibodies recognize coronavirus, neutralize and store information about the infection in case of a new infection.
