Bishkek, April 13, 2022 . / Kabar /. An intersectoral meeting on controlling non-communicable diseases (NCD) is taking place in Bishkek, the Republican Center for Health Promotion reported Wednesday.
Representatives of ministries and agencies discuss arguments in favor of investing in NCD prevention in Kyrgyzstan.
It is noted that non-communicable diseases cause 80% of all deaths in Kyrgyzstan.
Cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVDs), diabetes, and chronic lung disease, as well as their risk factors-smoking, harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diets, and physical inactivity are a growing development and public health problem in the country.
In 2015, the probability of dying prematurely (before age 70) from the four major NCDs for a person living in the Kyrgyz Republic was 25%.
The mortality rate from cardiovascular diseases is 50%.
Although almost half (43%) of adults in the country suffer from arterial hypertension, the majority (79%) do not take antihypertensive medications.

- Kyrgyzstan has one of the highest levels of salt consumption in the world.
- In 2015, the Kyrgyz Government spent KGS 3.7 billion on the treatment of four major NCDs.
