85-year-old student studies at Osh State University

Bishkek, Nov. 21, 2022. /Kabar/. Mamat Kulmatov, an 85-year-old man, is studying at Osh State University in the first year of the medical faculty with a degree in pharmaceuticals, the Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan said.

The student entered Aravan Medical College at the age of 76 and graduated at the age of 79.

In his youth, he received the specialty of an agronomist after graduating from an agricultural technical school, and worked in the agricultural industry for many years.

In 1959, he studied at Osh Pedagogical Institute as a teacher of biology and chemistry, but due to life's difficulties he was forced to leave his studies, the ministry said.

Mamat Kulmatov said that the family said not to study at that age, but the pensioner once promised himself to become a doctor.

Mamat Kulmatov has four daughters and one son. He has over 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Organic chemistry teacher Makhira Mirzayeva admits that in her 27 years of experience she has met such a student-grandfather, purposeful and inquisitive, for the first time, the Ministry of Education said.
