90th anniversary of Chyngyz Aitmatov celebrated in China

Bishkek, Dec. 18, 2018. /Kabar/. Large-scale celebrations of the 90th anniversary of world-famous Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov took place in China, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in China reported.

Within the framework of celebrations from December 8 to 15, ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva and son of the writer Eldar Aitmatov attended in the Days of Kyrgyz Cinema in China, international scientific conference, photo and book exhibitions, presentations of seven new Aitmatov books in Chinese, theatrical performance and a special concert program.

During the Days of Kyrgyz Cinema in Beijing from December 13 to December 15, films that became masterpieces of Kyrgyz and Soviet cinema were shown: “The White Ship”, “Mother's Field” and “The First Teacher”. The cultural event attracted great attention that about 500 people attended the opening. Among them were representatives of state bodies of China, students from Kyrgyzstan studying in Beijing, ethnic Kyrgyz and intellectuals of the two countries.

The International Scientific Conference on "Aitmatov in the Global Cultural Context" was held from 14 to 15 December. About 100 scholars, professors and aitmatologists from Tianjin, Nankai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Dalian, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Sichuan, XUAR and other cities and regions of China, as well as from Kyrgyzstan and Russia, became its participants.

A cultural program was prepared for the participants of the conference and the play “Jamilia” was shown, the producer of which is famous TV presenter and public figure Assol Moldokmatova.

In addition, on December 14, a gala evening was organized, organized by the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the People's Republic of China in cooperation with the SCO Secretariat as part of the Kyrgyz presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with the participation of more than 300 people.

Ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva, Ambassador Azamat Usenov, Secretary General of the SCO Rashid Alimov, Vice President of the China Association for International Friendly Contacts Xin Qi spoke at the opening of the event.

Representatives of the state bodies of China, including Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Zhang Hanhui, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, international organizations, Chinese public organizations, academics, as well as business representatives, were guests of the gala evening.

During the evening, the guests were shown a documentary film about Aitmatov, and at the book exhibition 78 books of the writer from the collection of the National Library of the People's Republic of China in Chinese and languages ​​of national minorities of China were presented.

The evening ended with a concert program with the participation of honored artists of the Kyrgyz Republic, soloists of the Kyrgyz National Drama Theater of Opera and Ballet named after Maldybayev Aybek Saralayev, Baktybek Ibykeyev, Asel Aydarova, as well as laureates of international competitions Zaire Raimbekova, Yulia Babich, and Ermek Maraimov.

In addition, two photo exhibitions were organized by the embassy to familiarize the vast audience with Aitmatov’s life, creativity, diplomatic and social activities: on December 8-15, a separate photo exhibition was held in the main hall of the library of the Chinese National University, and a special photo gallery was also presented to the guests during the gala evening.

On the same days, the presentation of seven new books in Chinese was carried out: The Scaffold, The White Cloud of Genghis Khan, Farewell to Gulsary, Cassandra's Brand, Legends and Myths, When The Mountains Fall and Collection of Scientific Articles about Aitmatov, published in China this year on the initiative of the Kyrgyz Embassy in China on the occasion of the writer's jubilee.

The events held during the week re-awakened the interest of the Chinese audience to the personality and creativity of the famous writer and contributed to further strengthening of the bilateral cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China.
