Bishkek, May 30, 2018 / Kabar /. About 6 thousand people die in Kyrgyzstan from tobacco addiction, Deputy Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic Amangeldi Murzaliyev told at Kabar Agency.
He said that one of the priority tasks of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic is tobacco control, since it has an impact on quality and life expectancy.
"Smokers suffer from ischemic heart disease, cancer, and etc 2-4 times more. According to data of the WHO, up to 6 thousand citizens from 30 years die every year from smoking. 96% goes to infectious diseases. Tobacco smoking is common among women by 4%, and among men by 51%," he said.
He added that not only people aged 30 or over, but this addiction has also affected young people from 25 years of age.
He informed that various measures are taking in Kyrgyzstan to control tobacco. The country ratified the framework convention on tobacco in 2006, at the same time the law on protection from harmful effects of tobacco was adopted. Later, illustrative warnings on cigarette packs were approved, as well as a telephone helpline 2103.
At the moment amendments to the law "On protection of the health of Kyrgyz citizens from harmful tobacco effects" has been initiated.
