About 600 Kyrgyzstanis stay in prisons in Iraq and Syria

Bishkek, July 27, 2022. /Kabar/. There are about 600 citizens of Kyrgyzstan in prisons of Iraq and Syria, Jeenbek Kulubaev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said at a press conference on the results of the first half of 2022.

He added that 400 children and 200 women are among them.

"At the moment, a special state commission led by the State Committee for National Security, law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has been created on this issue. We are negotiating the return of citizens, particularly children, to their homeland," Kulubaev said.

The minister clarified that the issue with mothers is more complicated and at the moment, there are no definite solutions.
