Bishkek, Oct. 01, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev, during his visit to Kumtor mine, held talks with Scott Perry, President of Centerra Gold Inc.
During the talks, topical issues of the activities of the gold mining enterprise and prospects for further cooperation were discussed taking into account the entry into force of the Strategic Agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Centerra Gold Inc., the press service of the government said.
Following the visit to the mine, the head of government answered questions from media representatives.
“The most important issue that was discussed during the meeting was the issue of extending the life of the Kumtor mine. This will have a positive effect on tax payments, save jobs and, in general, have a positive impact on the domestic economy. In 2020, the company’s budget for the continuation of exploration included about $ 20 million,” he said.
Abylgaziev also raised the issue of paying dividends to Kyrgyzstan.
He said that President of Centerra Gold Inc. Scott Perry promised to raise this issue in the near future for consideration by the Board of Directors and solve it.
The Prime Minister noted that the government has achieved favorable conditions for the country to enter into force of the strategic agreement. Thus, the size of environmental payments has been increased, funds have been created aimed at developing regions and preserving nature.
The Prime Minister noted the high level of organization of the production process at the Kumtor mine and emphasized that in this regard, the enterprise should be a model for other mining facilities.
Concerning the issue of the concession area of the Kumtor mine, Abylgaziev stressed that today the company owns a permit for the additional area allocated by the agreement of 2009, and no additional territories, especially due to the lands of the Sarychat-Ertash state reserve, have been allocated.
