Bishkek, Feb. 28, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev took part in the conference “The Kyrgyz Republic: National Dialogue on Regional Development” held in Bishkek.
The press service of the Kyrgyz Government Office reported that Abylgaziev stressed the relevance and timeliness of the initiative of President Sooronbay Jeenbekov to hold a special conference to discuss issues of regional development.
“The idea of its implementation was voiced before, but for various reasons it remained unfulfilled. If we had held a conference then and began to pay due attention to the development of the regions, today we would come out with completely different indicators,” Abylgaziyev said. “Since Kyrgyzstan gained its independence, we have become accustomed to the fact that regions are remembered only during elections and other important political events. Over the years, no timely measures were taken to address the economic and social problems on the ground.”
The head of government noted that domestic agriculture had been in crisis for many years, and large collective farms had fallen into disarray.
“And all these years, our people in the regions have been by themselves, they fed themselves, through hard work, experiencing all the difficulties. At the same time, individual peasant farms are already introducing modern production technologies and business organization. I want to thank fellow citizens for their patience and hard work,” the Prime Minister said. “You know best about the problems that confront villages, districts and cities. We have done a lot over the year, but regional development requires many years and great efforts. We need to solve the problems of health care and education so that the quality of the services provided in the villages does not differ from the level of the capital. We must create more jobs, carry out large-scale work to provide the population with drinking water and ensure that there is not a single village left without irrigation and drinking water in the country.”
The prime minister noted that the government had recently taken tough measures against a number of district administration leaders who considered posts as personal property and were not committed to their cause.
The head of government stressed that the development of many sectors of the economy is closely linked to the development of the regions, and only through joint and coordinated work can the accomplishment of tasks be achieved.
