Bishkek, Nov.20, 2019. /Kabar/. According to statistics, 68% of Kyrgyzstan's economic activity are women, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev said at the “Courage to Be Yourself” conference, dedicated to the Women's Entrepreneurship Day.

According to him, as of Jan.1, 2019, 3 million 154 thousand women and 3 million 101 thousand men live in Kyrgyzstan.

“Among them, 16% of women are represented in the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament), 10% in local councils, 37% in the municipal service and 42% in the civil service. Note that women prevail in such areas as services, health care, education and social protection,” he said.

The head of the Government noted there have been major changes in entrepreneurship.

“Since the 90s, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, our women entrepreneurs have opened the way to a billion-dollar business," he said.

PM Abylgaziev said 90% of women's entrepreneurship is in the sewing industry.

“The service sector accounts for 44.1% of the country's GDP. There are 402 companies in the service sector, 40% of which owned by women. There are 74 million teachers in education, 90% of whom are women. The health care sector has interesting data. In 2018, there were 1,095 enterprises, 701 or 70% of which owned by women. There are more than 5 thousand enterprises in agriculture, 40% of which were opened by women, including processing industry, dairy enterprises, cotton harvesting, etc. Also, women have made great contribution to the One Village-One Product project,” the prime minister said.

Women's Entrepreneurship Day (WED) is a day on which the work of women entrepreneurs is observed and discussed, held on the nineteenth of November of each year.

144 nations overall recognized the first WED in 2014, which included the presentation of the Women's Entrepreneurship Day Pioneer Awards.
