Acting Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Vice Speaker Aida Kasymalieva received a mission of international observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking States (TURKPA), which arrived in Kyrgyzstan to monitor the preparation and conduct of parliamentary elections.
According to the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh, Kasymalieva emphasized the importance of the established practice of sending observer missions from the TURKPA, and also dwelled on the peculiarities of the parliamentary elections under the new mixed system. “36 deputies are elected by the majoritarian system in single-mandate constituencies; 54 deputies are elected according to a proportional system (according to party lists) in a single electoral district. There are also special quotas in the lists of candidates from parties for women, youth, people with disabilities and representatives of ethnic minorities,” Kasymalieva informed.
The acting speaker spoke about the efforts of the authorities to ensure that the elections were held in accordance with all international standards, were open, free and transparent. “According to the presidential decree, strict observance of all electoral norms is envisaged. The Security Council also pays great attention to organizing the election campaign at the highest level, creating equal conditions for candidates. Therefore, we hope that the electoral process will justify the confidence of the people,” she said.
In turn, deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, a member of the TURKPA observation mission Nurlan Beknazarov noted the high level of preparation for the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan and expressed confidence that they will be held in accordance with all the requirements of the law.
Azerbaijani MP Hikmat Mammadov expressed hope that the Kyrgyz people, committed to democracy, will choose worthy candidates through transparent and competitive elections.
