Bishkek, Dec. 24, 2020. /Kabar/. Acting President of Kyrgyzstan, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Talant Mamytov is chairing a regular meeting of the country's Security Council.

The meeting is considering issues of public and epidemiological security during the presidential election, as well as recommendations for the List of Strategic Objects of the Kyrgyz Republic, the press service of the Kyrgyz president said.

In his opening speech, the acting head of state noted Kyrgyzstan, like the rest of the world, experienced heavy and tragic events in 2020.

"The pandemic revealed all the serious problems of the country. Unfortunately, more than 79,000 of our citizens contracted coronavirus, of whom more than 1,300 died. With great sadness I share the immeasurable grief of our people," Mamytov said.

He noted that one of the main tasks now is to hold presidential elections and a referendum to determine the form of government.

The acting president said at these events people will choose their future, and called on the relevant state bodies to responsibly carry out their duties, demanding to act only within the law.

Mamytov stressed the need to learn lessons from the Oct. 5-6 events, when the results of the unfair parliamentary elections led to popular unrest and the change of power.

He emphasized people are waiting for big changes, so the presidential election and the referendum should be clean and transparent, with the same requirements for all presidential candidates.
