Bishkek, Oct. 3, 2024. /Kabar/. The Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek hosted on Oct. 3 the Central Asian Women’s Dialogue Forum.
Addressing the meeting, leader of the parliamentary faction Yiman Nuru, deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Dinara Ashimova spoke about the role of women in the field of climate adaptation, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.
She noted that Central Asia is already facing the consequences of climate change, which, in particular, affects the environmental, social and economic situation.
“Of course, all of this affects women, as they are often the ones with the main responsibility for running the household. Climate change can trigger resettlement processes and other negative reactions. Economically, we are not prepared for them. Now is the time for us to unite our efforts to prevent the risks of climate change, to unite women who have access to decision-making,” said Dinara Ashimova.
The MP said that in 2023 she participated in COP -28, which was held in the United Arab Emirates.
“There, unfortunately, I did not see a unified pavilion of Central Asia, we were presented all separately, not very visible. I believe that at the upcoming COP 29 in Azerbaijan we need to act as a single platform within the theme “Climate, Women, Youth” in order for the voice of Central Asia to be heard. First of all, because we in the region need a significant increase in funding to adapt to climate change,” Ashimova added.
The Kyrgyz deputy also suggested that women create unified regional platforms to represent Central Asia at the international level on issues of green economy, adaptation to climate change.
