ADB to provide USD 56M for construction of sewage treatment plants in Issyk-Kul

Bishkek, Dec.4, 2024. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov signed the Law “On ratification of the Credit and Grant Agreements between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Asian Development Bank on financing the project ‘Environmental Management of Issyk-Kul Lake and Sustainable Tourism Development’ signed on July 4, 2024 in Bishkek”.

The press service of the Kyrgyz president reported that the Law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on Nov. 13, 2024.

Under the above agreements, ADB provides financial resources for the implementation of the project “Environmental Management of Issyk-Kul Lake and Sustainable Tourism Development” in the amount of $56 million, of which $31 million are grant funds and $25. million credit funds.

The project plans to build sewage treatment facilities in Cholpon-Ata town in Issyk-Kul Oblast with a daily volume of wastewater treatment of 14.2 thousand cubic meters, more than 150 km of sewerage system, 11.0 kilometers of promenade (pedestrian-bicycle path), a historical museum and 3 recreation parks.

In addition, the infrastructure of tourism facilities in the area of petroglyphs in Cholpon-Ata will be improved.
