Bishkek, Dec.11, 2019. /Kabar/. Afghanistan is ready to provide 100% protection of power lines under the CASA-1000 project, Executive Director for the implementation of projects of the National Electric Network of Kyrgyzstan OJSC Akylbek Tyumenbayev told reporters.
He said the agreement on the project between the four countries provides for force majeure circumstances.
“Recently, a meeting of a group of all countries participating in the project was held. Each country has committed itself to providing 100% protection power lines. The Afghan authorities have also made such commitments,” he explained.
The Central Asia-South Asia power project, commonly known by the acronym CASA-1000, is a $1.16 billion project currently under construction that will allow for the export of surplus hydroelectricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Groundbreaking for the project took place in May 2016 by leaders of the four nations. The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
