After the launch of the Safe City project, the number of people injured in road traffic accidents decreased by 44.4% compared to last year, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Kashkar Dzhunushaliev told at a meeting of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic during the consideration of the issue of the implementation of the Safe City project.
According to his information, the number of traffic violations was reduced by 37.5%, 38 thousand 385 reports were drawn up. 40 thousand 586 violations were registered, of which 15 thousand 411 fines were paid within 15 days in the amount of 20 million 202 thousand soms.
Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev emphasized that the goal of this project is not to raise more money through fines, but to increase the safety of citizens in road traffic and save lives.
According to him, part of the cash inflows from the payment of fines should be sent to improve the technical condition of the ambulance service.
“By April 20, 2019, the implementation of the second phase of the Safe City project will have begun, and by the end of the year, cameras recording traffic violations will be installed in all major cities and on the highways of the republic,” Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev said. “Previously, almost a thousand people were killed on the roads every year, if we reduce this figure by half, it will be our victory. Once again, our task is to ensure the safety of people on the roads.”
