Kazakh national poet, writer Olzhas Suleimenov receives Aitmatov Prize

Bishkek, Nov. 30, 2018. /Kabar/. The CIS IPA Prize named after Chyngyz Aitmatov was awarded to Kazakh national poet and writer Olzhas Suleimenov in the framework of the 48th Plenary Session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA), held in St. Petersburg.

The press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported that members of the organization supported Olzhas Suleimenov’s candidacy unanimously.

The award was presented by Deputy Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) Asel Koduranova. In turn, Olzhas Suleimenov, expressing gratitude to the Kyrgyz Parliament, wished further fruitful work to the Jogorku Kenesh. “Chyngyz Aitmatov was my mentor and friend. He is not only a writer, but also a wise man of vision. It is a great honor for me to receive the award named after such a great man,” he said.

Later, an exchange of views took place between Deputy Speaker Asel Koduranova and Olzhas Suleimenov.

The award was established by the decision of the CIS IPA in November 2012 at the proposal of the Jogorku Kenesh. The prize is awarded for achievements in the field of culture, education, contribution to the development of the humanities, literature and art, for strengthening of peace and friendship, as well as for the development of spiritual ties between states. In 2016, People’s Poet Shailoobek Duisheev from Kyrgyzstan was awarded the prize.
