Akylbek Zhaparov and USAID Administrator Samantha Power discuss joint projects

Bishkek, April 17, 2024 / Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov, during a working trip to Washington, met with Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of projects implemented by the agency in the near and medium term, paying special attention to projects aimed at improving the living standards of people living in rural areas and remote corners of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that the national economy of Kyrgyzstan is developing at a steady pace, as evidenced by the country’s indicators for 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.

“Economic growth over the past three years has averaged almost 7% (5.5% in 2021, 6.3% in 2022 and 9% in 2023). In the first quarter of 2024, economic growth was 8.8%, and without Kumtor – 9.8%,” Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized.

The parties also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the areas of education, agriculture, digitalization, energy, in particular, renewable energy sources.

Following the meeting, the interlocutors mutually expressed their readiness to expand cooperation in all areas, including those outlined during the negotiations.

The delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic led by Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov arrived in Washington to participate in the spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group.
