Akylbek Zhaparov holds talks with WB executive directors on implementation of country projects

Bishkek, March 5, 2024. /Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov received a delegation of executive directors of the World Bank.

During the meeting, he noted that the Cabinet of Ministers is carrying out real work to increase budget revenues and reduce the share of the shadow economy.

Akylbek Zhaparov also touched upon the topic of the main country projects, noting that the country’s new economic policy will be based primarily on three key areas: energy, mining and transport and transit industries.

The chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic takes the problem of climate change extremely seriously and is ready to take on ambitious commitments for decarbonization and the transition to green energy.

“Priority investment projects include two large promising green projects in the field of transport and transit infrastructure and energy, such as the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and the construction of the Kambarata hydroelectric station-1,” said the head of the Cabinet.

Also, a presentation of the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project was held for the executive directors of the World Bank, in which the positive impact of the implementation of this project on the water and energy balance in Central Asia was also noted.

“The Cabinet of Ministers intends to continue reforms in the energy sector and institutional changes in order to strengthen the country’s energy security and independence. We call on international institutions to provide support in this direction,” said Akylbek Zhaparov.

In turn, representatives of the World Bank expressed gratitude for the extensive and detailed presentation of the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project and noted their readiness to further develop and strengthen cooperation.

The need to promote a holistic approach to water resource use and energy development was also noted as the only way to ensure green sustainable and inclusive development throughout the region.
