Akylbek Zhaparov invites Japanese side to implement OVOP project at state level

Bishkek, June 25, 2022 . / Kabar / . Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov received Japanese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Shigeki Maeda, the press service of the Cabinet said.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including processing of products of mining enterprises, mechanical engineering, environmental safety and IT-technologies.

Akylbek Zhaparov noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in attracting major Japanese companies to the domestic market.

"Our country has great transit potential, because we border on China with population of one and a half billion and Uzbekistan with 40 million. It's a big market. We are ready to launch a franchise, buy development rights to bring Japanese technologies to the country," the head of the Kyrgyz Cabinet said.

The sides also discussed the One Village-One Product (OVOP) project implemented by the Japanese government.

Akylbek Zhaparov proposed to expand this project and implement it at the state level.

In turn, Shigeki Maeda supported the intentions of the Kyrgyz Cabinet on this project, noting that it has been successfully implemented in Japan for 42 years.

He also praised the efforts and reforms carried out by the leadership of Kyrgyzstan, stressing the readiness of the Embassy to assist in their implementation.
