Bishkek, Sept. 12, 2024. / Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk took part in the 6th Kyrgyz-Russian Economic Forum in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan.
In his speech, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that in modern conditions, changes in the world order and increased global competition create both challenges and opportunities for all countries. According to him, in this turbulent reality, the Kyrgyz Republic is demonstrating significant progress, despite external difficulties.
"Our GDP in 2023 reached 1 trillion 229 billion soms, government revenues have doubled since 2021, and key macroeconomic indicators continue to improve. This is the result of the coordinated work of our country aimed at sustainable development and modernization of the economy.
In these conditions, one thing remains unchanged: Russia remains and will be our strategic partner, with whom we are connected not only by economic interests, but also by centuries-old cultural, historical and social ties. The vectors of our development are clearly outlined in the Intergovernmental Program for Economic Cooperation for 2022-2026. Now, more than ever, it is important not only to strengthen our ties, but also to act in a coordinated and decisive manner in order to overcome challenges and open up new horizons through joint efforts,” he said.
Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized that trade is a key pillar of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia. In 2023, trade turnover between the two countries exceeded 3 billion US dollars. The heads of state have set an ambitious goal to bring this figure to 5 billion dollars. The head of the Cabinet said that achieving these goals is possible through: developing e-commerce, reducing costs for entrepreneurs, introducing new financial instruments to support our exporters, industrial cooperation to create added value and new jobs, and eliminating obstacles at the borders of the EAEU countries.
In addition, at the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic, a new multimodal transport route is being developed that will connect our countries through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, using ferry service across the Caspian Sea, which will serve as a powerful impetus to the development of logistics and accelerate trade turnover.
In his speech, the chairman of the Cabinet noted that energy remains one of the key areas of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation, mentioning the projects being implemented with Rosatom to build small hydroelectric power plants, as well as wind and solar power plants.
"These projects will help not only improve energy security, but also accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources, which is a strategic priority for our country. I would like to express my gratitude to the Russian Federation for its continued support in ensuring stable electricity supplies to Kyrgyzstan. The gas industry is no less important. We plan to step up work on large energy projects, such as the construction of the Chaldovar Thermal Power Plant and the Kara-Keche Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 500 MW, which will provide our country with the necessary energy resources and create new opportunities for industrial development. We are faced with serious challenges, and we can solve them only by joint efforts,” concluded the head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov, adding that this forum serves as a confirmation of the common commitment to strengthening and deepening Kyrgyz-Russian relations.
