Bishkek, Dec. 20, 2023. / Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov met with members of the European Parliament led by the co-chairman of the interparliamentary committee “Kyrgyzstan - European Union”, deputy Thomas Zdekhovsky.
The meeting was also attended by deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh Leila Lurova and Gulsharkan Kultaeva, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the EU Ambassador Aidid Erkin and the head of the European Union Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic, Ambassador Marilyn Josefson.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers congratulated the deputies on the successful holding of the 16th meeting of the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee “Kyrgyzstan - European Union”.
“We are pleased with the intensity of contacts with the European Parliament this year. I am confident that the results of the regular meeting of the committee on interparliamentary cooperation held in Bishkek will serve to further strengthen our traditionally friendly and partnership relations with the European Union. We intend to further develop and strengthen bilateral and interregional multifaceted cooperation with the European Union, which is important for us,” he said.
Akylbek Zhaparov noted the important role of the meeting of the leaders of the countries of Central Asia and the European Union, held in early July of this year in the city of Cholpon-Ata, which gave a powerful impetus to the further development of the entire range of relations between the two regions.
Following the results of the Cholpon-Ata Summit and on behalf of the leaders of the Central Asian countries and the EU, a Roadmap for deepening cooperation was developed, which reflects the main directions of multifaceted interregional cooperation for the medium term.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers spoke about the main priorities of state policy for the development of Kyrgyzstan for the next five years. He noted that the country has significant hydropower resources, as well as solar and wind energy, the development of which not only contributes to the generation of environmentally friendly electricity, but also mitigates the impact on climate change. Another important sector of the economy is the mining of rare earth metals. The Kyrgyz Republic has 17 critical metals of interest to European countries, 10 of which are in very large quantities.
“In this regard, I invite, through you, investors and financial institutions of your countries to cooperate to implement projects for the construction of renewable energy facilities and other “green” projects,” said Akylbek Japarov.
In turn, co-chairman of the interparliamentary committee “Kyrgyzstan - European Union”, Member of the European Parliament Thomas Zdekhovsky expressed gratitude for the hospitality and noted the country’s success in developing civil society, ensuring freedoms and the rule of law, economic reforms and digitalization.
He emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is an important partner of the European Union and expressed commitment to further strengthening and deepening bilateral relations.
