Akylbek Zhaparov: SCO countries gradually entering trajectory of economic growth

Bishkek, Nov. 26, 2021. / Kabar /. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov took part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states via video conferencing, the press service of the Cabinet said.

In his speech, Akylbek Zhaparov noted that the SCO is a fruitful platform for coordinating common efforts to ensure regional security, counter new challenges and threats.

“The SCO occupies a special place among international organizations and directs its efforts towards maintaining peace, security and stability, as well as creating favorable conditions for sustainable socio-economic development,” he said.

The Cabinet chairman stressed that at the Dushanbe summit, the heads of state paid special attention to security issues, ensuring peace and stability in the SCO region, and also made important decisions in key areas of cooperation.

At the same time, Akylbek Zhaparov noted that at the SCO Summit in Dushanbe, the Kyrgyz side initiated the creation of a Center for Countering International Organized Crime and expressed confidence that after its establishment, this center will serve as an effective platform for countering international organized crime and will significantly increase the level of coordination and improving the interaction of the member states of the Organization.

The head of the Cabinet stated that the SCO countries are gradually entering the trajectory of economic growth.

“According to our calculations, the average GDP growth of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries is expected to be 5.3%,” he added.

During his speech, the chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers drew attention to the need to improve the transport and logistics infrastructure and the effective implementation of joint infrastructure projects to create new international routes for road and rail transport in the region.

"The implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project can become a significant step towards the full disclosure of the transit potential of the region and the possibility of access to seaports," Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized.

It was also noted that the improvement of the regional transit and transport system will attract additional volumes of international transit and contribute to an increase in trade between the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Akylbek Zhaparov touched upon the implementation of economic projects, where the Kyrgyz Republic advocates the creation of SCO financial institutions, in particular, the SCO Development Bank and the SCO Development Fund (Special Account).

Regarding the topic of climate change, he noted that the Kyrgyz Republic made a proposal at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly to create a special fund under the auspices of this international organization for the implementation of targeted programs for adaptation to climate change with an emphasis on the preservation of glaciers, forests and biodiversity.

“The Kyrgyz Republic contributes to the expansion of cooperation in the field of sports and plans to hold the Sports Games of the SCO countries and the Silk Road in 2022,” Akylbek Zhaparov summed up and expressed hope for the support and active participation of all partners in the upcoming sports event.
