Kyrgyzstan evacuates its 137 thsd citizens from armed conflict zones in Batken

Bishkek, Sept. 17, 2022 . / Kabar / . According to the latest data, 136,770 residents of Kyrgyzstan's Batken Oblast have been evacuated, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the republic said Saturday.

In addition, 4,458 citizens are placed in temporary shelters across the oblast, the ministry reported.

The State Material Reserve Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic, Osh Oblast state administration and the UN sent material supplies to Batken, hit by aggression from the Tajik side.

106.6 tons of humanitarian aid arrived in the oblast, of which 33.5 tons were sent for distribution to Margun county.

The clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border started on Sept. 14.

Earlier, the Tajik side attacked border guarding and civilian infrastructure objects of Kyrgyzstan along the perimeter of the state border in Batken Oblast.

As a result, 24 people died, 103 are reported to be injured.

Negotiations between the border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are currently expected.

Meanwhile, Tajik side started mortar shelling several villages of another, Osh Oblast of Kyrgyzstan.
