Almost 6.5 tons of drugs seized in Kyrgyzstan this year

Bishkek, Oct. 19, 2023 . / Kabar / . For the first 9 months of 2023, 6 tons 444 kg of narcotic drugs were seized from illegal trafficking in Kyrgyzstan.

The press service of the Service for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic reported that the indicators of the this year is 415 kg more compared to 2022.

During this period, the internal affairs bodies registered 1 thousand 41 drug offenses, including seized:

- about 150 kg of synthetic drugs, which is 10 times more than in 2022;

- heroin - over 14 kg, which is 5.3 kg more than last year;

- hashish - about 140 kg, 8.1 kg more than in the same period last year;

- 362 kg more precursors (components for drug manufacture) were seized than in 2022.

The percentage of drug crimes solved by internal affairs bodies increased by 13.5% in comparison with the same period last year.

At the same time, the criminal activity of 59 drug groups was suppressed, 9 drug laboratories were liquidated, including 3 synthetic and 6 cannabis laboratories, and the estimated damage from drug crime amounted to USD 50 million 578 thousand. In addition, 120 persons wanted for drug offenses were detained.

Deputy Interior Minister Nurbek Abdiyev instructed to strengthen further work to identify and eliminate drug laboratories, suppress smuggling and distribution of synthetic drugs.
