In an exclusive interview with Kabar News Agency, Ambassador of China to Kyrgyzstan Du Dewen spoke about the construction project of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which was touched upon in Beijing during the meeting of Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov and China Xi Jinping.
The Chinese ambassador noted that the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad project was one of the important topics of the meeting of the two leaders in Beijing.
"Kyrgyzstan pays increased attention to this issue. I would like to stress once again that the position of the Chinese side on the construction of the railroad is active, open and consistent. On Jan. 25, during a video summit dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and five Central Asian countries, the Chinese leader stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
During the meeting in Beijing, the heads of our countries once again expressed their common position on promoting the construction of this railroad. This will certainly give a new impetus to accelerate the feasibility study and eventually accelerate the start of the project," Du Dewen noted.
She added that a joint statement by Chinese and Kyrgyz leaders indicated the importance of using the transport and transit potential within the framework of the implementation of the One Belt, One Road initiative and the development of all existing and new routes.
Du Dewen stressed that the relevant agencies of China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are currently in close contact on the design, financing and other important issues of the project.
On Feb. 3-6, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov paid a working visit to Beijing, People's Republic of China.
During the visit, Sadyr Zhaparov attended the official opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and held talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
The two leaders discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation in political, trade and economic, investment, energy and other spheres.
