Bishkek, Dec.5, 2024. /Kabar/. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ulukbek Maripov attended the One Water Summit, held in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on the sidelines of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16).
The summit featured speeches by Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and co-chairs of the event, President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the World Bank Group Ajay Banga.
The summit aimed to contribute to the ongoing UN discussions and process to improve global water governance, accelerate action to achieve SDG 6 on water and sanitation, building on the outcomes of the 2023 UN Water Conference.
The actual goal of the summit was to act as an incubator for finding solutions in preparation for the next UN Water Conference in 2026 and to scale up projects by stimulating partnerships between states, international organizations, local authorities, development organizations and private banks, businesses, philanthropic organizations, academic experts, NGOs and civil society, in line with previous One Planet Summits.
