Anatoly Karpov Chess Academy to be open in Bishkek in the near future

Bishkek, March 27 / Kabar /. Chess Academy of Anatoly Karpov will be open in Bishkek in the near future. This became known at the meeting of Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Zheenbekov with three-time World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov.

The Kyrgyz Government’s press service reports that, Grandmaster Anatoly Karpov arrived in Bishkek to participate in the ceremony of awarding prizes and winners of the Cup of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on chess among children, held on Saturday, March 25.

"You are the idol of many generations, for chess fans - a living legend, I'm glad to welcome you in Bishkek. Your visit made a strong impression on the young chess players, who will remember for the whole life a meeting with such a great grandmaster as you. This is very important tournament that stimulates the interest of the younger generation to chess," Prime Minister Sooronbai Zheenbekov said.

At the meeting, Anatoly Karpov shared his memories of the successes of Soviet athletes, including chess players, noting the role and place of Kyrgyzstan's athletes in the development of sport.

"I’ve visited Kyrgyzstan for the first time more than 40 years ago, when I took part in the opening of a specialized chess school. Later I repeatedly visited the republic, used to prepare for complex international tournaments on the shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. In your country there was a strong chess school, whose good traditions live still now," said Anatoly Karpov. He said that together with the Chess Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic, they will work over opening the author's Chess Academy in Bishkek.

"I hope that this school will become the center of development of chess thought in the republic, since similar academies operating in many countries of the world have proved that among young people the interest in chess is great," said grandmaster Anatoly Karpov.

The Prime Minister thanked the three-time world champion Anatoly Karpov for supporting the chess school of Kyrgyzstan and stressed that the Government will assist in the opening of the Chess Academy Anatoly Karpov in the city of Bishkek.
