Bishkek, March 18, 2021 / Kabar /. The first case of COVID-19 coronavirus infection was detected for the first time in Kyrgyzstan on March 17, 2020, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development of the country Madamin Karataev told at a press conference at the Kabar Agency.
He said that the first case was detected in Suzak region of Jalal-Abad Oblast and, starting from that day, cases of coronavirus infection began to be registered in the country.
“We have many problems in the healthcare system that were exposed during the pandemic. It should be noted that not only Kyrgyzstan, but the entire world was not ready for this. In July 2020, there was a peak in the incidence of coronavirus, which was called "Black July", we saw more than 29 thousand cases of detectability. At that moment, there was not enough funds, drugs, beds and PPE. Many people became victims of the coronavirus and community-acquired pneumonia,” Karataev said.
The deputy minister noted that at the moment the main task of the Ministry of Health is to prepare as much as possible for the third wave. “We have directed all our efforts and resources to ensure that there are few people who become ill with COVID-19,” he said.
