As of May 6 Situation is calm at Kyrgyz-Tajik state border

Bishkek, May 6, 2021. / Kabar /. As of May 6, 2021, the situation in all regions and villages of Batken Oblast at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, is stable. Border villages are under the full control of police officers. At present, the situation in the border areas is calm, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Security in border villages is controlled by the police, internal troops and other security agencies. Employees of the Internal Affairs Directorate, internal troops and other law enforcement agencies conduct explanations among the local population about the observance of the rule of law. Investigative and operational teams continue to investigate and calculate the damage caused to social facilities, residential buildings and other facilities damaged during the conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

The personnel of the Internal Affairs Directorate continue to serve in an enhanced mode.

The situation on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan near the Golovnoy water intake facility escalated on April 28, after clashes had sparked between residents of the two countries’ border areas. On April 29, clashes between Kyrgyz and Tajik servicemen broke out. Tajik sides used mortars, machine guns and Mi-24 military helicopters. A ceasefire was established between the countries on May 1.

As a result of the clashes at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border 36 people died, 189 injured in Kyrgyzstan. Over 100 buildings were burnt or damaged, about 33,000 civilians were evacuated from the conflict zone.
